Drug Kingpin Arrested

Ismael "El Mayo" Zambada, a 76-year-old co-founder and leader of Mexico's powerful Sinaloa cartel, has been arrested by U.S. federal agents in El Paso, Texas. Zambada, who had evaded authorities for decades, was apprehended along with Joaquin Guzman Lopez, son of the infamous "El Chapo" Guzman. The arrest was reportedly the result of a sophisticated operation where Zambada was tricked into boarding a plane under false pretenses. U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland described the Sinaloa cartel as "one of the most violent and powerful drug trafficking organisations in the world," particularly noting their role in the fentanyl crisis. Zambada faces numerous charges, including drug trafficking, murder, and money laundering. His arrest is considered a significant blow to the cartel and a major victory for U.S. law enforcement in their fight against drug trafficking and the opioid epidemic.
