Harris to Announce VP Pick

Vice President Kamala Harris is expected to announce her running mate for the 2024 presidential election by Tuesday morning, following a weekend of interviews with top contenders including Josh Shapiro, Tim Walz, and Mark Kelly. Betting odds are heavily favoring Shapiro and Walz, however. Shapiro is receiving increased scrutiny from the left over his pro-Israel stance and history of supporting charter schools. Tim Walz has mostly been an unknown figure in American politics up until now. The announcement will precede a five-day campaign tour across seven key battleground states, starting with a rally in Philadelphia. Recent polls show Harris in a tight race with Trump nationally, with a one-point lead. The selection process has been accompanied by intense lobbying efforts and criticism of potential candidates. Trump and his running mate, JD Vance, have downplayed the importance of Harris' choice, suggesting it will have little impact on the election outcome.
